Tiger
Tigers are huge carnivorous (meat-eating) cats found in many
parts of Asia. They can be found not only in hot jungles, but
also in cold, snowy forests. Seven species of tigers are still
alive. Their numbers are decreasing due to hunting. Tigers cubs
are born blind in "litters" of 2 to 4 kittens. In about 6 weeks,
they are able to see and begin traveling with their mother.
She provides them with food until they can hunt for themselves.
The orange-brown coat with black stripes helps the animals hide
in the forest or fields of grass. They stalk deer, antelope,
or even young elephants for food. An adult Siberian tiger can
weigh up to 600 pounds and eats about 100 pounds of meat a day.
