  4. Tigers are huge carnivorous (meat-eating) cats found in many

  6. parts of Asia.  They can be found not only in hot jungles, but

  8. also in cold, snowy forests.  Seven species of tigers are still

  10. alive.  Their numbers are decreasing due to hunting.  Tigers cubs

  12. are born blind in "litters" of 2 to 4 kittens.  In about 6 weeks,

  14. they are able to see and begin traveling with their mother.

  16. She provides them with food until they can hunt for themselves.

  18. The orange-brown coat with black stripes helps the animals hide

  20. in the forest or fields of grass.  They stalk deer, antelope,

  22. or even young elephants for food.  An adult Siberian tiger can
  23.  
  24. weigh up to 600 pounds and eats about 100 pounds of meat a day.
